Top Ten Tips
To copy highlighted
information, hold down the Ctrl key and press the C key. Although
nothing seems to happen, that information really does head to the
Clipboard.
Press Tab to move from one box
to the next when filling out a form in Windows 2000 Professional.
(Sometimes these forms are called dialog boxes.)
Windows 2000 comes with a
Backup, a program that automatically copies files from your hard disk to
whatever storage device you choose, such as floppy disks, network
drives, or removable disks.
The ever-helpful Start button
automatically makes a shortcut to the last 15 documents you have opened.
Click the Start button, choose Documents, and you see shortcuts waiting
for you to discover them.
Use the Reset All Folders
button to go back to the settings that were in effect when Windows 2000
was installed.
If your computer is not
connected to a network, the logon procedure isn't even installed.
No username. No password. You just turn on your machine and go.
Always let Plug and Play look
for new hardware instead of trying to sidestep it and configure a new
device by your lonesome. If Windows 2000 Professional is stumped
and can't find, say, your new soundcard, you'll be given a chance to
supply the information yourself.
Don't know which version of
Windows 2000 you are running? Click on the My Computer icon with your
right mouse button, then choose Properties from the menu that
appears. You should spot the version number hidden in the screen
that appears.
You don't have to click on the
maximize button to maximize a windows. Just double-click on the
its title bar, the thick strip bearing the window's name along the
window's top.
Don't see the taskbar? Then
hold down Ctrl and press Esc. Windows 2000 Professional instantly brings
the taskbar to the surface, ready to do your bidding.
